Key Insect Orders and Life Cycles:
Ametabolus Orders
Ametabolus, or “no metamorphosis” orders represent a small number of insect orders in whichthere is very little change during development.
- Larvae hatch from eggs with their full compliment of body segments
- Larvae resemble adults but are smaller
- Adults are wingless and continue to molt after maturity
- Examples: springtails, firebrats and silverfish
