Jassids - Amrasca biguttulll biguttula (Cicadellidae : Homoptera)

  • Jassids are Widely distributed. Also attack solanaceous and other crops.
  • Adults are greenish-yellow, wedge shaped with a pair of black spot on vertex and a black spot on each of the forewings. Nymphs are pale greenish, almost translucent and walk diagonally. Female inserts eggs into leaf veins. Life cycle varies from 2 to 4 weeks.

  • Nymphs and adults suck sap usually form the undersurface of the leaves and inject toxins causing curling, initial yellowing and reddening of lamina initiating from margins and then extending inwards, ultimately resulting in hopper burn.
  • In severe cases leaves dry up & drop down.
  • When 2-3 nymphs per leaf are observed, spraying with any of the insecticides should be commenced.
